Vitamin B2 is vital for growth, the production of red blood cells and releasing energy from food. It is an essential coenzyme of the enzyme flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and FAD. Both these enzymes are required for the formation of ATP, and thus, the production of energy. These coenzymes are also needed for the regeneration of certain vital compounds in the body, such as glutathione- the body's primary detoxification substance. Vitamin B2 is also needed for the production of amino acids and fatty acids, which cells can not grow or develop without.
